סם (Shem)

סם (shem) is the Hebrew word for name. Names are no small thing in the Hebrew Bible. To name is to exercise power; and to know someone's name is to hold power over that person. This is why no one knows God's name.

Here סם is an audio essay about what happens when we name the world — what is lost and what emerges as the word moves from body, to sound, to writing, to object.

Presented as part of the installation Och ordet vart kött och tog sin boning bland oss, the spoken word (voiced by Benjamin Hagberg) became an additional material within the exhibition space.
