I approach art as metaphor

A metaphor is per definition a "concept understood in terms of another concept". And for me it is one of the most important tools for trying to comprehend what cannot be comprehended totally, or to express what cannot be expressed totally. It is a way to create meaning.

Metaphors are at the same time precise, and extremely abstract. Hence a metaphor requires interpretation in order to be understood. What is then so special about metaphors is that they can have multiple meanings. And as the borders of metaphors are ambiguous, the ambiguity allows multiple interpretations to emerge.

In my own work the metaphor of textiles is omnipresent. Textiles is usually considered a material, however I also consider it a metaphor for seeing the world intertwined. I see it as

no coincidence that our language is made up of textile references describing the world and its connections.  The words “Text” and “Textiles” derives from the same Latin origin, the verb “Texere” which means ‘to weave’. This takes me back to the metaphor, which in itself creates a weave of meaning, in its process of transferring and transforming our understanding.
